1/15--Introductory class

Write a two-page memo reporting on progressand problems (due 1/22).  Be sure to state your topic in a way that a general reader can understand, and report on what objectives have been achieved and what circumstances might hinder you from completing your additional objectives. Please also discuss how and by whom your project is funded, and how it might prove beneficial to some segment of society.

Check in the library and find at least one thesis from a student previously enrolled in this program. Use this thesis to help you outlinewhat your final document will look like. See if you can identify chapters that correspond to introduction, methods, results and discussion .

1/22--Present progress reports. Go over introductions.

1/29--Due:  Introduction.  Present in class (not more than 10 minutes per student).  Remember to establish significance, problem, link to literature and provide objectives or predictions. Be prepared for discussion of impacts of your thesis--who will benefit from your work?  who might be harmed or disadvantaged? How is the work funded?

2/5--No class--I will be out of town on University business.

2/12--Due: Revisions of Introduction--follow the format! Discussion of Methods .

3/19--Due: Results section.  Begin presentations.

3/26--Results revisions, in-class conference on discussion sections.
